Elk NetworkE-Scouting for Elk with Randy Newberg and onX (Part 10)

Hunting | August 27, 2018

In Episode #10 of E-Scouting for elk, Randy Newberg shows how he makes  his E-scouting plan for the hardest period of all, the post-rut. You will see that onX system is critical for creating this plan.

In this post-rut period, bull elk have on primary need – sanctuary. They are interested in survival and all other needs are secondary.

With sanctuary being primary, Randy shows how the onX roadless layer is the quickest way to eliminate the areas least likely to hold elk and highlight the areas most likely to have elk looking for sanctuary.

Using the onX system, Randy shows how he finds general locations, how to prioritize sanctuaries based on proximity to secondary needs, and how to use all the information from prior videos to locate areas with the greatest likelihood to have elk during this post-rut period.

The goal of this series is to allow you to scout from home, via computer, and build a very solid hunting plan before you even head to the field. Whether you live ten miles or two days from your unit, this video series will help you plan your hunt, allowing you to be more efficient and more effective.
